The Shop

When we became empty nesters and decided to retire in the charming town of Monclova in the Toledo, OH area, we downsized from our 4,000+ sq/ft, 3 floors family home to a more manageable 2,500 sq/ft one-story home. We also decided to build a new house, and I took the opportunity to finally have a dedicated workshop space. For years, my woodworking workshops were crammed into garages, competing for space with cars, tools, and bikes. Now, I have a 1300 sq/ft detached workshop next to the house – I'm thrilled to finally have my own space to let my creativity soar! In some houses, you have the "Her" and "His" closet. Us, we have a "Her house" and "His building" situation, but I am still authorized to eat and sleep in the main house, for now!

Construction

August 2019: Construction begins on my dream workshop, built in parallel with our new home!
May 2020: My workshop arrives – fully framed, roofed, and ready for me to take over! All the essential utilities were ready and waiting – a 100 Amp electrical panel to power all my tools, a Cat 6 line for staying connected, and even a toilet for those long project days! I was handed the keys to this blank canvas. With walls begging for insulation and floors waiting for finishing touches, I rolled up my sleeves and got to work. I've finished most of the interior myself, except for the drywall done by a contractor. While the workshop is my creative haven for woodworking, it also serves as a home for all my landscaping equipment and materials.

Over time, I've upgraded my workshop with some key tools that have significantly improved my woodworking capabilities. I'm excited to share my thoughts on some of the essential tools that have transformed my workshop! From powerful sawing to precision drilling, these workhorses have made my projects easier, more efficient, and a lot more fun. Shop Furniture

While tools are essential in any woodworking shop, well-designed shop furniture can make a world of difference. From tool stands and storage to ample work surfaces, the right furniture improves efficiency and workflow.

The recently completed two key pieces for my new shop – a miter saw station and an assembly table – which I'll describe here.

You'll also get a glimpse of some earlier projects, like my workbench and mobile clamp rack, which I might detail in the future.
